Summer Volunteers Lend a Hand at the Mission
Youth and Adults from All over Region, Nation Serve the Needy

We are so thankful for the many volunteers who came down this summer to Memphis Union Mission to help minister to our homeless guests.

A wide variety of groups from all over the Mid-South - churches, youth choirs, Sunday school classes, businesses, civic groups, and families - visited the shelter to help serve meals to our guests.

These groups also contributed by helping with chapel services, lending their musical and drama talents, as well as their preaching.

Of course, we weren't limited to groups from just the Mid-South. We also received volunteers from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas, who came to lend a helping hand.

The experience, in many cases, was mutually beneficial. Here is one letter we received:

Thanks again for allowing our team the privilege of joining with you in God's work in MUM.  I have to say I have never seen an urban ministry that meets the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs in an environment of true community better than M.U.M.

"Evidence" our music and mission team prepares all year to serve in urban mission settings.  We have served along side of many urban mission in major cities in the U.S and abroad including Chicago, Philadelphia, London, Atlanta and Denver to name a few.  But I was greatly impressed with the leadership, organization, and efficiency of MUM. All were served with great respect and grace. It was clear men were in fellowship with other men who knew and followed Christ, iron sharpening iron.

We felt warmly welcomed but were clearly guided in how best to serve.  In worship we experienced God's presence as the men were led with passion and skill in concerted praise to God.  We felt encouraged to share our gift with freedom and joy.  The men responded in a way that we will remember all our lives. Thank you again for allowing to join you in serving Christ in Memphis.  We will pray for God to continue to shine the light of the gospel to those in greatest need through the Memphis Union Mission.

Serving Him Together,

New Moriah House Officially Opens
Room Sponsorships Still Available

Memphis Union Mission is pleased to announce that it has effectively wrapped up its Moriah House capital campaign.

An open house was held in early May, and women and children are now residing in the new facility.

Moriah House serves women whose lives have been wrecked by domestic violence, substance abuse, crisis pregnancy, and clinical depression. The current facility is located in Midtown, but the new site is located on 4.2 acres of land in East Memphis.

Room and playground sponsorships are still available. Sponsorships are a great opportunity for churches, Sunday school classes and small groups to get involved in the lives of the women and children.

Click here for more information about sponsoring a room.
